When I Said To Watch For The Fire

Mathilda Cullen

i mean that as in | this is the new front | as in this is the

| last and ever replenishing push | the avant-garde has

never been | armed with poems and guns | watch us as

we recite | the names of all our fallen comrades | in the

only conceptual poem we’ll allow | a manifest of

memory we carry into every day | a ledger of loss and

lives | of bosses’ stolen time | the party plunges ahead

of the past | and we, a complex physical arrangement

of sound | organized under the ear of empire | we slit

throats we | cut coats we | break chains we | take aim

we | bark blues we | spark fuse we | phase moon we |

rise soon.
