The Wrong War

Dan Boucher

we saved the peregrines and

they fed on pigeons

and made more peregrines and

ad infinitum until

there were no more pigeons and

so the falcons became

the new pigeons and

now they scuttle across the train platforms

dive-bomb toy mice

toy mice behind windows and

slam into said windows

toy mice smiling

majestic raptors eat trash and

stray cigarette butts and

and stray cheeseburger chunks

on sidewalks

leave white scat splatter

on windshields and

like the pigeons before them,

call it revolution.
